long tubes do have a wider powerband but when it comes to F.I. most go with shorties. once cams come out for the 07+ ill be changing out all my piping to a 2 1/2 to a 3" with a borla xr-1 and a cutout :D

picked up DT shorties for the X....they say it give 17hp ...wish i held out for the long tubes....much bigger powerband.....oh well... ;)

PS: headers are a b*tch to install..at least on a VQ40DE engine...not sure how it is for the VK56...

Don't care what you all say, headers in general are a PITA to install. You just have to be prepped and ready to do it.

I bought a set of DTs but sold them after deciding to not spend any money on mods.

I bought the DTs because of the price, and Nismo headers were out of production. Stillen is on my "don't buy from" list.

Nismo's...researched and were the only equal length with a merge collector. Plus, when I bought mine they were only $580 to my door

^^ Took an hour to install my header on my civic :D

Straight off the back of the motor, crack loose 5 bolts, take out old, put in new, bolt up, boom 20 more horsepower.

correct me if i'm wrong:

shorites for top end and long for low end ?

Layer1
01-21-2010, 06:09 PM
Shorties are great for high end, maybe a tad low.
Longs, great for low and entire power band. You will also get the highend as well.

If you go with LT then you will need uprev if you dont have it already.

it all depends on your truck and application. no two are the same. some people can slap a set of headers on and be in perfect a/fr range. others way off.

When i installed my headers i figured i would be running lean, instead i was running way rich.at around 3500 rpm up i was losing major power!

best thing to do is just have your a/fr checked after installing the headers. it will atleast give you an idea of how ugent you need tuned, if any at all.

eddie fonzareli
01-21-2010, 07:42 PM
how much is a tune

O-Fivecc
01-21-2010, 07:54 PM
Yeah I have heard stories of a lot of people running lean with LT headers, I also ran rich though. Uprev is $500 and you get a good custom tune after some data-logging, but your talking about a truck that is almost 1 second faster with those 2 mods. And believe me, a second is a lot faster. A truck length or 2 is about .2, so imagine how much faster .8-.9 is, which is about what you will gain with headers/uprev.
