With domestics, I know that a gear swap is probably the best bang for the buck. Then again, their choices are nearly unlimited.

In a quest for improving part throttle response, I got to thinking about changing gear ratios. My XE has the 2.93 ratio. Would it be worth the trouble, in terms of performance, to swap over to 3.36 gears?

I know that I'll need an ECU reflash to keep the speedometer and cc working properly.

What about even lower gears? I think they are available, but do I lose cruise control function and accurate speedometer? Can UpRev fix any of this?

With a lower gear ratio, I know that it will be even more important to get truetrac.

I wish I could find a complete axle with truetrac and lower gears already installed. I could swap the axle out over the weekend and not worry with the hassle of finding a shop to do the work.

Finding an axle that has 3:36 in it would be the easy way to do it. Have TT put in and swap it over they go get it reflashed and your all set. Need to check with some one that has done it to make shure theres nothing else you got to do to make it work. I need an early rear to swap in to my 08, cause they dont make a TT for mine:bawl:

I don't think the gains would be worth the money and trouble to do it. 3.73 IMO would be sweet, but yes you would lose CC

And the fastest 1/4 mile times are 2:94 trucks right?

That is true!!

Not arguing this fact or saying its untrue by any means but how can that be?? When i was younger and building hot rods we couldn't wait to weld up the rear end and drop 4.11's in it to have a very quick 1/4 mile car. I'm confused.

Can someone verify what models came with what gear ratios? I have the 2004 CC LE 4x4 BT model. I should have 3.73's right? So what got 3.36's and 2.94's. I would think the best combo would be a 2wd KC with TruTrac and 3.73's when using factory gears. Evidently this is not the case though.

you have 3.36, BT Titans have the 3.36. I know Firelife tried his OEM 3.36's 3.73's and 4.11's alll at the track. He ended up settling on the 3.73's

Thanks "O-Five" for clearing up what gears i have. So i'm guessing the Off-Road Titans have the 3.73's and the 2WD's have the 2.94's? Is that correcto?

Hell my Peterbilt at work only has 3.36's with 475 HP. The catch is its got enough torque to rip your fuck'n head off your shoulders while pulling 54,000+ lbs in the tank trailer i pull. Too bad i can't just drop that Cat-15 in my CC LE Titan.

Lets do a comparison:
My 2004 CC LE 4x4 Titan is rated at 305 HP and 379 torque with 3.36 gear ratio. Titan weighs 5,137 lbs and can tow 9,500lbs. for a total operating weight of 14,637 (not bad)
My 2003 379 Peterbilt with a 265" wheelbase is rated at 574 HP with its Cat-15 engine and 1850 torque with 3.36 gear ratio. Pete's actual max gross operating weight is 110,000lbs when you subtract my truck &trailer empty weight of 24,950 i can safely tow over 85,000 lbs. of product.
Time to upgrade the Titan. LOL

So i'm guessing the Off-Road Titans have the 3.73's

No titan comes with the 3.73's, that is aftermarket.

I can't break 17mpg - lol

Could be something to do with the accelerator pedal though. :D

Shit 15 would be great. Try usually 13-13.5 mpg. I will say i can't drive 5 miles without jamming my foot thru the freak'n firewall though. This truck just don't like to go slow.

I've gotten 21 mpg it's not fun doing the speed limit though.

I asked a member via PM over at CT on what he prefers (2.94 vs 3.36) since he has had both sets of gearing, he prefers the 3.36. Said it's better on the low end, would spin from a 2nd-1st downshift up until 20+ MPH, and was a better driving experience.

No traffic on monday night, left here about 9pm and was on it all the way. Only to get the Las Vegas Blvd and sit in traffic due to road work, took over a hour and a half to make it down the strip! There were a lot of hottie's out so that make the waiting worth it.

And remember don't speed through Barstow!!! The CHP hides in there all the time. They will back up against the over pass pillar and you can't see them till it's too late, seen the dirt flying for the center inland area a few times and bright flashing lights a few seconds down the road. Once you get pass all the billboards at the bottom of the hill pedal to the metal again.

I'm on the opposite coast, but traveling from Wilmington, NC back to the Piedmont area, about a normal 3:45 trip.....fell behind a Maxima just as soon as I hit I-40, and we hauled all the way to Greensboro. Never got below 90. We made that trip in 2:08. It was 193 miles. I don't think I'd do it again though. Too much heat and consequences nowadays.....especially on that particular stretch.

gotdamn! living up to your name brosef!!! i wish i had gotten 3.73s instead of my 4.11s... i'm averaging around 12-14 on the freeway but its worse like 7-10 if and when i'm racing around town. so i try not to drive with a leadfoot anymore... just sucks! 4.11s in the dezert is badass though!!! give and take i guess... :(
